Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control
Our Commitment
We genuinely care for the health and safety of all people in our business. We therefore need to ensure there are effective methods in place to:
- Systematically identify existing hazards to workers and the public at any of our places of work.
- Systematically identify new hazards to workers and the public at any of our places of work.
Worker Responsibility
Workers also have a responsibility for their own health and safety and that of their colleagues. As part of ongoing hazard management, workers must report any hazard that they identify.
Hazard Identification
From this initial identification:
- All hazards can be identified.
- Appropriate controls for hazards can be established.
- Objectives can be set to cover training and information needs.
- Management, team leader and worker responsibilities can be clearly defined.
- Comprehensive work standards and procedures can be developed and implemented.
Control Measures
If it is not reasonably practicable to eliminate the hazard, it must be minimised so far as is reasonably practicable by:
- Substituting the hazard with something that gives rise to a lesser risk, or
- Isolating the hazard to prevent any person coming into contact with it, or
- Engineering Controls such as modifying plant and equipment to minimise the risk of injury, or
- Administrative Controls such as changing or modifying work methods or procedures, or
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as issuing protective eye wear and making sure it is worn.
Organisation
- Each location has been scheduled for periodic hazard inspections as deemed necessary depending on the nature of the hazards in the area.
- All identified hazards have been recorded on the hazard register.
- Appropriate controls for hazards will be regularly established, implemented and reviewed.
Training and Information
Objectives have been set to cover training and information needs. Audits are scheduled periodically to check on implementation and management.
