Step 5: Application, interview and selection phase

Where positions are to be combined or where downsizing takes place necessitating redundancies, it is often advisable to make all remaining positions contestable. This eliminates employee grievances on the grounds of unjustifiable treatment.

The need for or the extent of selection interviews will depend on the number of employees likely to be affected in any one area. The interview process should be complementary to the selection criteria and position descriptions; and also take into consideration the results of the assessment process.
